Off-duty officer involved in fatal Boulder City shooting

BOULDER CITY, NV – A battery call on the morning of January 24, 2025, led to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Boulder City, marking the first such incident of the year for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). The altercation unfolded in the 800 block of 6th Street, where dispatchers received an open line call, only able to discern sounds of a struggle in the background.

Officer Caesar Ibara, a member of the LVMPD since 2005, was off-duty but near the scene when he intervened. He was armed with a 9mm handgun and fired two shots during the incident. Ibara is part of the Homeland Security Division’s Airport Bureau and, despite being off-duty, took action as a police officer, prompting the classification of the event as an officer-involved shooting.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Jeremiah Bosard, was involved in a violent altercation with a woman, later identified as the victim. Bosard was seen assaulting the woman in the backyard of a residence, prompting Officer Ibara to intervene. The victim suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations and strangulation marks, and was taken to safety by Ibara’s wife before Bosard pursued Ibara.

A physical struggle ensued between Bosard and Officer Ibara, during which Bosard reportedly slammed Ibara’s head into a vehicle. Ibara’s wife witnessed the altercation and retrieved a firearm as Bosard continued to attack. Despite Officer Ibara’s repeated commands for Bosard to desist and get on the ground, Bosard advanced toward the victim, prompting both Ibara and his wife to discharge their weapons.

Following the shooting, Bosard was declared deceased at the scene. Officer Ibara’s actions were put under review, as is standard procedure in such cases. The victim, who was reportedly an acquaintance of Bosard, was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital. She expressed that she feared for her life during the attack.

The incident has raised questions about Bosard’s sudden aggressive behavior. The motive remains unclear, as those involved and witnesses have not provided any indication of what might have triggered the attack. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The LVMPD and Boulder City Police Department are collaborating to gather more evidence and testimonies. The community is urged to provide any additional information that could aid the investigation.
