Nursing Student Laken Riley Remembered at Emotional Funeral Service in Woodstock

Atlanta, Georgia – Loved ones of Laken Hope Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who tragically lost her life on the University of Georgia campus, will gather on Friday to honor her memory.

The funeral service for Riley is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Woodstock City Church in Woodstock. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the same location from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Described as an exceptional daughter, sister, and friend, Riley’s devotion to her faith shone through in every aspect of her life, as noted in her obituary. Her family emphasizes their commitment to carrying on her legacy in a significant manner.

Survived by her parents, siblings, and grandparents, Riley’s family is requesting donations to an online fundraiser aimed at assisting with funeral costs, establishing a scholarship in her name, raising awareness about homicide, or supporting various needs during this challenging period.

Riley, a native of Woodstock and alumna of River Ridge High School, excelled in academics and sports. During her time at the University of Georgia and Augusta University College of Nursing, where she was a junior in the nursing program, she showcased her dedication to learning and serving her community.

Authorities have identified the suspect in Riley’s murder as 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, who faces multiple serious charges related to the crime. The court has denied Ibarra bond, deeming the case fit for further legal proceedings before a higher court.

UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark stated that Riley and Ibarra had no known connection, portraying the tragic incident as a random act of violence. The community continues to mourn the loss of a promising young individual with a bright future ahead.
