Murderer Pierre Lake Allegedly Strikes Again: Inmate Dies Following Assault in Arizona Prison

ELOY, Arizona — A 22-year-old inmate, Pierre Lake, has been implicated in a recent assault that led to the death of a fellow prisoner in an Arizona facility. Lake, who was serving a lengthy sentence for a previous homicide committed in Idaho, has drawn significant attention due to both his history and the details surrounding the latest incident.

Lake hails from Rigby, Idaho, and received a 30-year-to-life sentence in January 2024 for the first-degree murder of Ralph Brian, a Rexburg resident, as well as for the attempted murder of Brian’s wife, Karen. This conviction stemmed from a violent home invasion in September 2021, during which Lake shot Ralph Brian and severely injured Karen, leaving her to cope with the trauma of the brutal attack.

On August 20, staff at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy responded to an emergency call reporting an inmate assault. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Christopher Pendleton unresponsive. Despite efforts from the prison medical team and emergency services, Pendleton was pronounced dead shortly after 9 a.m., raising serious concerns surrounding safety and violence in private prisons.

Court documents indicate that Pendleton was serving a minimum 18-year sentence for various felonies, including sexual abuse of a minor. Idaho’s Department of Correction has contracted with CoreCivic, the prison’s operator, to manage incarcerated individuals amid overcrowding issues. This contract costs the state approximately $28.7 million annually for housing up to 1,200 inmates.

Reports suggest Lake had previously involved himself in a conspiracy related to the home invasion that led to Ralph Brian’s death. Alongside two other men, Lake allegedly planned to murder a different individual but mistakenly entered the wrong mobile home, resulting in the tragic events that unfolded.

During his previous sentencing, Lake expressed remorse and a desire for rehabilitation. “I hope I can understand what I’ve done and work toward a better mindset,” he told the court, acknowledging the pain he caused the Brian family.

Following Pendleton’s death, it’s unclear whether Lake will face additional charges in connection with the incident. An investigation by the Eloy Police Department is currently underway, with no further information available from officials at this time.

The recent events raise ongoing questions about the management of private prisons and the safety protocols in place to protect inmates. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on ensuring accountability within the prison system while seeking justice for those impacted by violence both inside and outside correctional facilities.
