Murder Trial Date Set for Anthony Maggio in Lockport Double Homicide

Lockport, Illinois – A jury trial has been scheduled for Anthony Maggio, 29, of Crestwood, who is facing multiple charges of first-degree murder in connection with the 2020 killings of Ashtin Eaton, 32, and her 1-year-old daughter, Hazel Bryant. The trial is set to commence in September as per records from Will County court.

Maggio’s charges were not filed until December 2022, two years after the tragic incidents occurred. He has been accused of intentionally causing harm to Eaton and Bryant on October 2, 2020, leading to their deaths. Despite previous pleas for release, Maggio has been in custody since 2022 with a set bond of $10 million.

Following an extensive two-year investigation by Lockport Police detectives, which involved processing over 100 pieces of physical evidence and pursuing numerous leads, Maggio was identified as a suspect in the homicide cases. The investigation ultimately resulted in the criminal complaint detailing Maggio’s alleged actions on the day of the killings.

An argument made by Maggio’s lawyer last year, advocating for his release from custody pending trial with electronic monitoring, was unsuccessful. The attorney asserted the absence of direct evidence linking Maggio to the offenses and his client’s lack of a violent history. However, as of April 29, Maggio remains detained at the Will County Jail.

A hearing is scheduled for August 1 at 9:30 a.m., followed by the start of the jury trial on September 30 at the same time, according to court records. The upcoming legal proceedings aim to address the serious charges Maggio faces in relation to the tragic deaths of Eaton and Bryant. The community awaits justice as the trial approaches, seeking closure and accountability for the lives lost.
