Murder Trial Begins Over Yeezy Sneaker Deal Gone Wrong

Florida City, FL – A trial commenced on Tuesday for the man accused of being involved in the murder of a high school senior in April 2020 over a pair of Yeezy sneakers. George Walton, who has pleaded not guilty, faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and attempted robbery.

According to records, Walton met with Sergio Berben and Andrea Camps Lacayo at an abandoned house located at 12041 Southwest 271st Street. The couple was selling sneakers, hoping to make extra cash by reselling them. Berben and Camps were looking to sell Walton three pairs of Yeezy sneakers worth about $935.

Once the three met, Walton requested to try on the shoes, but Berben asked to see payment first. At that moment, another man, Adrian Cosby, approached the car and allegedly shot both Berben and Camps Lacayo with a firearm.

During the trial’s first day, Berben testified that after the shots were fired, he drove off, parked on the side of a turnpike, and called for help. Jurors heard Berben’s 911 call, in which he pleaded for assistance as Camps Lacayo was unresponsive.

Walton’s defense attorney, Alan Greenstein, stated, “My client is not responsible for the actions of Adrian Cosby. Just because he was there does not make him guilty of the crime.”

Cosby, who is still awaiting trial, is also charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and attempted robbery. Prosecutors argue that while Walton may not have been the shooter, he is equally responsible for the events that transpired that day.

The trial is set to continue on Wednesday.
