Murder Suspect in Custody for Killing Pregnant Woman in Chicago Jurisdictions

Chicago, Illinois – A man accused of the murder of a pregnant woman on Chicago’s South Side was ordered to remain in custody pending his trial by a judge on Saturday.

Dontrell Anderson, 26, was apprehended in Manitowoc, Wisconsin before being brought back to Chicago by authorities. He faces charges of murder and concealing a homicide related to the death of 24-year-old Itzel Camarena, who was six months pregnant when she was killed in Anderson’s family’s Chatham apartment.

Prosecutors allege that Anderson strangled and fatally shot Camarena before dragging her body wrapped in a white sheet out to an alley. An investigation led to the discovery of Camarena’s body near Anderson’s family home.

During a court hearing, it was determined that Anderson poses a risk to public safety, with the victim’s family expressing their desire for justice in the case.

Family members described Camarena as excited about impending motherhood and her dream of starting a cosmetics business, which sadly remain unfulfilled due to her tragic death.

Anderson, who denies committing the murder but admits to being in the apartment with the victim, is scheduled to appear in court again on April 9. The case continues to unfold as investigators seek to bring closure to the grieving family and ensure justice for the victim.
