LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday when an elderly man shot and killed his wife and two adult children before taking his own life in a Los Angeles home, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a report of a shooting in the Granada Hills area around 7 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered four individuals dead, in what has been described as a murder-suicide situation. One person managed to survive by barricading themselves in a room and contacting the police.

During a press briefing, police Capt. Kelly Muniz expressed the silver lining in the tragedy, stating, “The only positive point is that you at least have one witness that has survived this incident.” Investigators believe the shooter, an 80-year-old man, fatally shot his wife, also in her 80s, as well as their two adult children, a man and a woman in their 40s. The man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in another area of the house.
