Murder-Suicide Tragedy: Elderly Duo Found Dead in Palm Coast Home

Palm Coast, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a suspected murder-suicide involving an elderly couple found dead in their home on Wednesday evening. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence on Pinelynn Lane after a relative raised concerns about the well-being of 85-year-old Julio Alonso and his 74-year-old wife, Martha.

Upon arrival, deputies were granted access by a hospice nurse and discovered the couple in their bedroom. Sheriff Rick Staly indicated that initial investigations and evidence collected at the scene suggest a tragic conclusion to their lives, hinting at a murder-suicide scenario.

Neighbors reported that the couple had been seen leaving for a hospital appointment earlier in the week, raising questions about what transpired in the days leading up to their deaths. According to preliminary findings, it appears that Julio shot Martha before turning the gun on himself.

The bodies have been sent to the medical examiner’s office for further examination, and investigators are gathering additional evidence and interviewing friends and family members. Sheriff Staly emphasized the importance of mental health awareness during this investigation, urging those struggling to seek help.

Resources are available for anyone feeling distressed. Flagler Cares offers support through their hotline at 386-319-9483, while the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline can be accessed by dialing 988 or visiting their website.

As the community processes this tragic incident, local officials are reiterating the need for open conversations about mental health, particularly for the elderly who may face unique challenges.
