Murder of Odisha Caretaker Revealed: Partner Arrested After Body Found in Abandoned Mine Eight Months Later

Kalinga Mundia, India — The investigation into the disappearance of a young caretaker took a tragic turn when authorities discovered her remains in a deep mine eight months after she was reported missing. The police have arrested her partner, who has allegedly confessed to her murder amid suspicions regarding her fidelity.

Nirupama Parida, 22, also referred to as Mita, was last heard from on January 24, when she told her family she was returning to her hometown of Ranpur. Her sudden silence prompted her family to report her missing three days later, leading the Bharatpur Police to initiate a search for her.

Months of investigative work yielded little insight into her whereabouts, prompting her family to escalate their calls for justice to state officials, including the Chief Minister and the Assembly Speaker. Their persistent appeals underscored their anguish and the urgency of the case.

This week, a breakthrough emerged when police traced digital activity linked to Nirupama’s mobile phone, which had been intermittently active since her disappearance. Investigators focused on her partner, Debasis Bisoi, who was believed to have been in a relationship with her. His confession to the murder, occurring on the day she vanished, shocked the community.

“Both the victim and the accused visited the mine together. When left alone, he took advantage of the opportunity to commit the crime and subsequently concealed her body there,” stated the police commissioner. Authorities alleged that Bisoi continued to access her mobile phone and bank accounts even after her disappearance, raising further suspicions about his involvement.

Nirupama’s skeletal remains were ultimately identified by her father and brother, who had been relentless in their pursuit of justice. They maintain that she was murdered and have called for the severest penalties against Bisoi.

In addition to the arrest, police have recovered the vehicle believed to be involved in the crime and are conducting a thorough investigation to gather more evidence. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the broader issues of violence against women and the importance of timely responses in missing persons investigations.

The tragic fate of Nirupama Parida serves as a grim reminder of the dangers many women face and the necessity of community vigilance in addressing such incidents. As the legal process unfolds, her family continues to demand accountability and justice for their loss.
