Dayton, Ohio – A breakthrough has emerged in the cold case murder investigation of a Dayton mother and business owner after 17 years. Jeffrey Young is currently in custody on suspicion of murder in connection to the death of his mother, Patricia Peck. According to online court records, investigators have revisited the case, working to uncover new leads and evidence in the long-standing mystery.
Previously featured in “Miami Valley Murder Mysteries” in 2023, Peck was last seen alive in February 2007. Close friend Ron Rohling shared that Peck had mentioned plans with her son, but when she failed to show up for work the next day, concerns arose. Nearly two weeks later, on March 8, 2007, Peck’s car was discovered at Dayton International Airport. Inside, her lifeless body was found covered with blankets and a towel on the rear seat floor.
Retired Dayton Police Homicide Detective Doyle Burke, who previously worked on the case, described the brutal nature of Peck’s death, noting the signs of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. He believes the crime was likely driven by passion, given Peck’s age and vulnerability. Of particular interest was an imitation rose found near the victim, suggesting a deliberate act by the assailant.
Investigators have uncovered DNA evidence that could potentially lead to identifying Peck’s killer. With new developments, the case has once again captured the attention of the community and those following the story. The dedication of law enforcement and the persistence of individuals like Cheryl McHenry from News Center 7 have played a crucial role in shining a light on this long unsolved case. As the investigation progresses, the search for justice for Patricia Peck continues.
