ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — A community is grappling with grief after the shooting death of 18-year-old Holden Howse, who celebrated his birthday just two weeks prior. His mother, Lynn La Vita, described Holden as a loving young man committed to supporting others, memory-laden with dreams of becoming a father and helping troubled teens.
Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old from Lenoir City in connection with the shooting that occurred during a party at Mr. Clean Detailing and Window Tinting early Saturday morning. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement are leading an ongoing investigation into the incident.
La Vita recounted the harrowing events following her last conversation with Holden, which took place just hours before the tragedy. In her final words to him, they exchanged affirmations of love, unaware it would be their last exchange.
As the night unfolded, she received distressing calls about the party, initially feeling no concern for Holden’s safety. Tragically, she learned that his friends had desperately attempted to save him as he lay bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Holden was a bright student nearing graduation from an online high school, known for his dedication to fitness and work, including construction and DoorDash deliveries. His mother noted that his aspirations extended beyond his personal ambitions; he expressed a desire to marry his girlfriend, Ashlyn, and cherish a family.
La Vita remembered her son as a compassionate individual who had worked hard to overcome personal struggles. Following the death of his father when he was just 13, Holden faced a series of emotional challenges.
