London, England — A man has been convicted of murder after a violent incident last Christmas Day that claimed the life of a 25-year-old and left several others injured. Anthony Gilheaney, 31, was found guilty on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm, during a court session at the Old Bailey.
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of December 25, 2024, when Gilheaney struck five individuals with his vehicle. Among them was Aiden Chapman, who succumbed to fatal brain injuries days later. Prosecutors characterized the attack as a calculated act of violence fueled by intoxication.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), surveillance footage captured Gilheaney behaving aggressively inside a nightclub before he was ejected. Upon exiting, he became involved in a confrontation, physically assaulting two people outside. The situation escalated when he returned to his car, unleashed a barrage of racist insults at a passerby, and then assaulted him with his vehicle.
Gilheaney’s reckless actions continued as he drove erratically through the streets of London. He targeted a couple walking together, hitting one man as he sought to assist his partner, who had also been struck.
