Las Vegas, Nevada – A reality television star known for his role in the Discovery Channel series “Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch” is facing murder charges following the death of his cellmate at the Clark County Detention Center. Chad Ollinger, 41, was charged after the inmate was found unresponsive late Friday night.
Authorities reported the discovery at approximately 11:20 p.m. when corrections officers conducting routine inspections noticed a male inmate lying motionless in a cell. Upon entering, officers identified visible signs of blunt force trauma on the inmate. He was declared dead at the scene as homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department commenced an investigation.
The investigation revealed that a physical altercation occurred between Ollinger and his cellmate inside their shared cell. While the identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, the circumstances suggest a serious breach of safety within the facility.
Ollinger has been in custody since his arrest on October 27 for allegedly being a fugitive from another state, alongside a charge of contempt of court. Initially slated to make his first court appearance on Sunday, he did not attend due to disruptive behavior. His appearance has now been rescheduled for Tuesday.
“Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch,” which premiered in 2021, follows Chad and his father, Duane Ollinger, on their quest for gold and Aztec artifacts in northeastern Utah. The fifth season of the show concluded in August, marking a significant chapter in its run.
This incident raises concerns about inmate safety and the mental well-being of incarcerated individuals, particularly those in high-stress environments such as detention centers. The authorities will likely review protocols and measures in place to prevent such violent encounters among inmates.
As the investigation unfolds, further details are expected to emerge, painting a clearer picture of what transpired in the hours leading up to the fatal incident. The case highlights the challenges faced by correctional facilities in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all inmates.
