Murder Charge for Man Following Wife’s Violent Death

HONOLULU, HI – Authorities have arrested Frank Bright, 38, following the tragic discovery of his wife, Amy Takaki Bright, 43, in their Halawa residence. The arrest comes after a series of unsettling events that culminated in her violent death.

Police responded to a welfare check request on September 4, made by the property owner who noticed the front door ajar and no response from the occupants. Inside, officers found Amy’s body in the hallway amidst chaos.

The medical examiner reported that Amy’s death was caused by multiple chop wounds to her head and neck. Investigators found a tomahawk and a fire extinguisher near her, which are believed to be linked to the crime.

Frank Bright was taken into custody the night before the discovery on charges unrelated to the murder, including trespassing and making threats. He was found with blood on his clothes, raising suspicions.

DNA evidence revealed that the blood on the tomahawk matched both Frank and Amy. Additionally, Frank’s jeans and gloves were stained with Amy’s blood, suggesting his involvement.

The couple had been married for less than five months before Frank filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Their relationship had reportedly been fraught with tension and lack of support.

Amy was employed at Myron B. Thompson Academy, while Frank was not working. The situation escalated when Frank’s mother sought a restraining order, alleging threats and physical assault.

The restraining order highlighted Frank’s struggles with depression, his medical marijuana use, and his recent sobriety from alcohol. It also noted that his registered firearms were missing.

Frank Bright is now charged with second-degree murder as the investigation continues, with bail set and further legal actions pending.
