Mudslides Traps Hundreds in Mundakkai: Massive Rescue Operation Underway in Kerala

Wayanad, India – A devastating series of mudslides in Wayanad has left hundreds of individuals feared trapped after bridges and roads connecting the area collapsed. Rescue operations have been mobilized, with the fire services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), state police, and even the Army working together to help those affected.

Former Kalpetta MLA C.K. Saseendran described the challenges faced in coordinating rescue efforts due to the difficult conditions at the site. Forest minister A.K. Saseendran and other officials are on the ground in Wayanad, with more assistance on the way.

To streamline communication and support for those in need, control rooms have been established in the health minister’s office to address inquiries. District collector Meghashree D.R. has urged all government officials and teachers in the area to be ready to assist in rescue operations.

In response to the disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences for the lives lost and announced compensation for the affected families. Additionally, former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has been in contact with local authorities to ensure a coordinated response to the crisis.

In a separate incident in Kozhikode’s Vilangad region, another landslide has resulted in one person reported missing and several individuals trapped under debris. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for multiple districts, emphasizing the ongoing threat of landslides in the region.
