RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – A harrowing hit-and-run incident on the I-15 freeway during Tuesday morning’s rush hour left a motorcyclist injured and a witness determined to seek justice. The event unfolded when a car collided with a motorcycle, sending the rider tumbling onto the pavement in the midst of slow-moving traffic.
Despite the dangerous situation, the motorcyclist remarkably managed to stand up after the fall. A commuter who witnessed the crash, and wishes to remain anonymous, captured the entire scene on his dash camera. The witness was traveling to work and was driving at a speed of around 30 to 40 miles per hour when the accident occurred.
The collision happened when two cars, moving in front of the witness, veered left, causing the motorcycle to be struck and the rider thrown off. To the dismay of the witness, the driver of the black sedan involved in the collision did not stop and continued onto the 10 freeway.
The witness, who had previously experienced a hit-and-run himself, decided to take action. He followed the fleeing driver, recorded the license plate, and contacted 911 to report the incident. His past experience with a similar situation had left a significant impact, motivating him to prevent another individual from going through the same ordeal.
Law enforcement officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Rancho Cucamonga quickly located the driver of the black sedan within an hour. While the driver was not arrested immediately, authorities are considering whether to pursue felony hit-and-run charges.
The motorcyclist, who was on his way to work from San Bernardino, sustained bruises and a hip injury. Having been riding a motorcycle for about a year, he expressed gratitude for the witness’s efforts to bring the driver to justice.
The witness hopes that this incident serves as a reminder for drivers to remain vigilant and considerate on the roads. As for the broader context, the Rancho Cucamonga CHP office, which also oversees areas like Fontana and Upland, reported having dealt with 10 motorcycle accidents so far this year.
