Motorcycle Rider Attacks DPWH Engineers on Diversion Road, Iloilo City – Police Investigate Possible Mistaken Identity as Motive

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Police investigators in Iloilo City are exploring the possibility that a violent incident along B. Aquino Ave., also known as Diversion Road, may not be a case of road rage. The attack involved engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and occurred on the evening of Jan. 8.

Captain Val Cambel, commander of Iloilo City Police Station 5, stated that they are considering other motives behind the incident as the victims claimed to have no known enemies and the attack was sudden. The victims, who were driving a government-issued vehicle, reported that a motorcycle rider approached their vehicle and began striking it with a piece of wood at a red traffic signal.

The mayor, Jerry Treñas, has announced a reward of P50,000 for anyone who can identify and lead to the arrest of the perpetrator. “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the City of Love,” Treñas said.

Despite the initial assumption that the incident was a case of road rage, the police are now looking into the possibility of mistaken identity. A witness reported that the assailant came from behind the victim’s vehicle and repeatedly struck it.

The injured driver sustained a hematoma on his arm, and the motorcycle rider fled the scene before the police arrived. The incident, caught on camera, has prompted Mayor Treñas to take action to ensure the safety of residents in Iloilo City.

In the meantime, the police are continuing their investigation to uncover the motives behind the attack, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward. The authorities are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice and prevent such violent incidents from recurring in the City of Love.
