Mother of Three Fatally Shot in Temple Hills Park

Police identified the victim as 38-year-old Juanita Frazier of Washington, D.C.

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — Prince George’s County detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of Juanita Frazier, a 38-year-old Washington, D.C., mother of three found late Tuesday in a parking lot at Oxon Run Community Park.

Frazier’s death has drawn a homicide investigation involving Prince George’s County police and Maryland-National Capital Park Police. Authorities said no arrest had been announced, no suspect description had been released and detectives were still working to identify a motive. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

Officers were called to Oxon Run Community Park at about 10:15 p.m. April 28 for a report of an unresponsive woman. Police said Frazier was found in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound. First responders tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Assistant Chief Gregory Ford of Maryland-National Capital Park Police said investigators were interviewing people and searching for evidence. “A lot of times, these crimes are solved by the community providing any small or large information possible,” Ford said.

Police said the park was closed when officers arrived. Investigators have not said why Frazier was there, whether she was meeting someone or whether the shooting began in the parking lot. The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit took over the case because county police investigate homicides that occur within the Maryland-National Capital Park Police jurisdiction in Prince George’s County. The case number is 26-0022511. Authorities said detectives are reviewing available evidence and seeking witnesses who may have been near the park that night.

Frazier was remembered by people who knew her as kind and joyful. Dewayne Morris, a childhood friend, said she often smiled and wanted others to have fun. Morris called the killing disturbing and said he could not understand why anyone would want to harm her. Another community member said the death meant a family had lost a daughter, sister, aunt or loved one. Police have not released details about Frazier’s children or funeral arrangements.

The killing adds another case to a busy docket for homicide detectives in Prince George’s County, where shootings in public spaces often leave investigators dependent on video, shell casings, phone records and witness accounts. Oxon Run Community Park sits in Temple Hills, a community near the D.C. line. Police have not said whether any surveillance cameras captured the shooting or whether a weapon was recovered. The lack of a public suspect description left the case open as detectives continued to build a timeline.

Ford said patrols at the park were being increased after the shooting. He said officers would conduct continuous checks and, in similar incidents, typically try to check the area hourly. Police have not announced whether the park will face any long-term schedule changes. Detectives are expected to continue canvassing the area, collecting evidence and reviewing tips tied to the reward. No court dates have been set because no charges had been filed.

As of May 1, the investigation remained active, with detectives still seeking the person who shot Frazier. The next public milestone will be any police update identifying a suspect, motive or arrest in case 26-0022511.
