Investigators are seeking a silver four-door car after a roadside confrontation escalated during a family’s walk to school.
ENID, Okla. — A woman’s call for a speeding driver to slow down was followed by a violent confrontation during a morning walk to school with her two children, according to Enid police, who are trying to identify the man involved.
Police said the encounter began around 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, near 20th Street and Pine Avenue. A woman was walking with her two children when she saw a silver four-door car traveling at what she believed was an unsafe speed and yelled for the driver to slow down, investigators said.
Authorities said the driver then reversed course by turning around and returning to the woman. He got out of the car and attacked her, police said, striking her with an object and also punching and kicking her. The department has not released the woman’s name.
The woman’s children were present during the encounter, according to police. Authorities have not reported that either child was physically hurt. Their names and ages have not been released, and investigators have not identified the school that the family was walking toward.
The woman received treatment at a local hospital after the assault. Police have not provided a detailed description of her injuries or identified the object they say the attacker used. No information released by investigators indicated what, if anything, was said between the initial demand to slow down and the physical confrontation.
Police described the man they are seeking as white, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds. Investigators said he had short brown hair and was unshaven. He was shirtless at the time of the encounter and had no visible tattoos, according to the description released by authorities.
The vehicle became another focus of the investigation after the assailant left the scene. Police said the silver four-door car traveled north before turning west onto Chestnut. Authorities have not publicly released a license plate number or a more specific make and model.
The investigation remained active in the latest information released by police. No arrest had been announced, and authorities were continuing to seek information that could identify the driver or the car. The Enid Police Department can be reached through its non-emergency dispatch line at 580-242-7000.
