BYRON, WY – A horrific incident in the peaceful town of Byron has left residents in shock after a mother allegedly shot her four young daughters and then herself. The tragedy unfolded on February 10th, with a call from the mother, Trello Harshman, alerting authorities to the grim scene.
In a place where neighbors are more like family, the community is reeling from the news. Harshman, described as a devoted and loving mother, made the chilling call to dispatchers, telling them she believed her daughters were dead.
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office reported that the call came through at 1:30 p.m., with Harshman stating that her daughters had been shot. Despite desperate attempts by the dispatcher to keep her on the line, Harshman insisted it was too late. The call ended abruptly.
Officers arrived to find a devastating scene. Four children, ages nine, seven, and two-year-old twins, were discovered with gunshot wounds. Harshman was also found with a fatal wound. Two of the children were declared dead at the scene.
The incident has left Byron grappling with unanswered questions. Residents are trying to understand what could have led a mother to commit such an act and whether there were any signs that could have indicated her distress.
Friends and family are left in disbelief, remembering Harshman as a committed mother who was always there for her children. Her friends spoke of her dedication to raising her daughters with strong values, making the tragedy all the more incomprehensible.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is left to support each other through the mourning process. The surviving child is in critical condition, and the town is rallying to provide whatever support they can.
