Police say surveillance video shows the victim running and the suspect walking away moments later on Ocean Drive.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A woman who police say was forced onto a rooftop along Ocean Drive escaped an early-Saturday sexual assault by biting the attacker and running for help, an incident that left her fiancé hospitalized and a 28-year-old man facing charges including armed sexual battery and kidnapping.
Investigators say the encounter began after the couple left a busy South Beach nightclub and crossed paths with two men near the 900 block of Ocean Drive. One man punched the woman’s fiancé, knocking him unconscious, before leading the woman upstairs and threatening to shoot her if she did not comply. Detectives later reviewed security footage and social media posts tied to the scene. Authorities say the victim, treated at a hospital, described biting the suspect’s genitals to break free. Police announced an arrest the next day and said additional evidence, including surveillance video, helped identify the man.
According to a police report, the woman and her fiancé had just left Voodoo Nightclub and Rooftop Lounge when they encountered the men near the Breakwater. Video reviewed by detectives shows the suspect punching the fiancé, who collapsed on the sidewalk with a head wound, then directing the woman to a nearby rooftop. There, police say he threatened to kill her if she did not perform sexual acts, claiming he had a gun though none was displayed. The woman complied out of fear, then bit him and ran. A nearby hotel owner, Mitch Novick of the Sherbrooke Hotel, said the security footage captured screams and the woman “running for her life” moments later.
Miami Beach police identified the suspect as Alix Junio Louis Innocent and said he was arrested a day after the attack. Officers said they recovered about 14 grams of suspected psychedelic mushrooms and 12 grams of marijuana in his backpack during the arrest. Records reviewed by detectives also showed an active bench warrant from August related to a suspended-license case and that Innocent was on probation until May 5, 2026, for grand theft and eluding police in Broward County. “The subject not only committed these heinous acts but he went back to the crime scene and bragged about it on social media,” department spokesman Christopher Bess said, adding that those posts guided investigators to key video evidence.
The alleged assault happened before dawn on a weekend that typically draws heavy holiday crowds to South Beach’s entertainment district. Detectives say they compiled footage from multiple cameras along the 900 block, including clips showing the woman and suspect entering a building and the victim’s plea of “You’re going to kill me,” followed by the suspect telling her to be quiet. Additional video filmed after the incident shows the suspect leaving the area. Police say the fiancé was later found alive and hospitalized with a laceration to the head.
Court filings were not immediately available, but police said Innocent faces counts that include armed sexual battery and kidnapping, with additional drug-related charges from the arrest. Detectives plan to submit the case to prosecutors following a review of collected videos, witness statements and any available forensic evidence. Further updates could come after the suspect’s first court appearance and the filing of formal charges. Authorities did not release a timeline for additional interviews or lab testing.
Ocean Drive businesses operating near the scene said officers canvassed the block for hours, seeking camera angles and witnesses who saw the initial punch and the rooftop encounter. Novick said he turned over footage that captured screams and the woman’s dash onto the street. By late afternoon, police had circulated the suspect’s name and were tracking his movements. The victim, whose name was not released, remained under medical care and later described the assault to detectives at the hospital, according to the report.
As of Wednesday evening, police said the suspect was in custody and investigators were preparing evidence for prosecutors. Authorities said more information is expected after the next court hearing and once charging documents are filed.
