Memorial Concert Raises Over $1,000 for Families of UCCS Shooting Victims in Colorado Springs- Legends Never Die in Music Community

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Last Friday night, the community gathered at Sunshine Studios in Security-Widefield for a touching memorial concert honoring Celie Montgomery and Sam Knopp, the two individuals tragically lost in the February shooting at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The event, which featured performances by local bands, aimed to raise funds in remembrance of the victims.

The concert showcased Aeternum, a band that included former bandmates of Knopp, who had played a significant role in the group before his passing. Known for his talent as a technical guitarist and his passion for classic music, Knopp’s presence was deeply felt within the music community. Bandmate Jose Tinajero fondly recalled Knopp’s infectious joy while performing, describing it as electrifying.

In addition to the emotional performances, the event raised over $1,000 for the families of Montgomery and Knopp through ticket sales and a raffle. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase commemorative T-shirts bearing the message “legends never die,” honoring the memories of the two individuals. Knopp’s parents were present at the concert, expressing their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community.

Lead singer of Aeternum, Kayla Smith, emphasized the tight-knit nature of the Colorado Springs music scene, where connections between musicians run deep. Other musicians, like Nikki Z from the band Misconduct, echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the widespread impact of Knopp’s legacy and the importance of coming together to honor his memory. Despite the somber occasion, performers expressed their appreciation for being part of the event and paying tribute to their late friend.
