Mass Shooting Suspect Charged in Detroit Dope House Incident with Three Dead

Detroit, MI – A Macomb County man has been charged with multiple offenses in connection with a tragic mass shooting that occurred at an alleged drug house in Detroit two years ago. The incident resulted in the deaths of three men and left two women injured.

Jony Saad Alatto, 32, of Macomb Township, faced arraignment in 36th District Court in Detroit on Friday. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed his remand to jail following the hearing.

Following the shooting, Alatto allegedly proceeded to rob the residence’s occupants before fleeing the scene. Prosecutor Kym Worthy commended the efforts of the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in bringing charges against Alatto, expressing confidence in the pursuit of justice.

Alatto faces charges including felony murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm possession. The victims have been identified as John Coffie Jr., 76, Alphonso Henry, 55, Morriss Campbell Jr., 41, and two women aged 55 and 33, all from Detroit.

The violent incident took place in August 2022 at a location known for narcotics activity. Upon responding to reports of a shooting, Detroit police officers discovered the victims with gunshot wounds, prompting urgent medical attention. Tragically, Campbell succumbed to his injuries on site, while Henry and Coffie later passed away from their wounds.

Alatto’s criminal history includes prior convictions for home invasion, assault, and attempted safe breaking, according to records from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings in June.
