Manhunt: Suspected Murderer and Abductor Found in Oregon with Gunshot Wound

West Richland, Washington – A former police officer suspected of murdering two women and abducting a 1-year-old child was found in Oregon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a pursuit by police. The manhunt ended when Elias Huizar, 40, was located by Oregon State Patrol on Interstate 5 near Eugene. Huizar’s condition remained unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

The hunt for Huizar began after a deadly shooting at an elementary school in West Richland, where he shot and killed a woman believed to be his ex-wife. Authorities later discovered a second victim, a known associate of Huizar, at his residence. Roman Santos, the abducted 1-year-old, was found unharmed and taken into custody by state troopers.

Huizar, a former police officer in Yakima, had a history of legal issues, including charges of sexual assault. His alleged crimes included a second-degree rape charge for assaulting a 16-year-old girl and a separate third-degree rape charge for engaging in a relationship with a 17-year-old. Huizar was reported to have fled the scene in a black sedan, which led authorities to alert the public about a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla with Washington state license plates, suspected to be his getaway vehicle.

Authorities believed Huizar was attempting to flee to Mexico with the abducted child, prompting concerns about potential further crimes. Police emphasized the urgent need to locate him, given his history and the danger he posed. An Amber Alert issued by Washington State Patrol extended from Washington to Oregon in efforts to find Huizar and ensure the safety of the child.

Despite the tragic events surrounding the murders and abduction, the swift action by law enforcement led to the apprehension of Huizar and the safe recovery of Roman Santos. Investigations are ongoing to shed light on the motives behind the violent acts and to provide justice for the victims. Further details and updates are expected as the case unfolds.
