Man Shot in Head and Back in Atlanta, Police Probe Multiple Scenes

Investigators have not publicly named a suspect or explained how the wounded man reached a nearby gas station after the gunfire.

ATLANTA — Atlanta police continued investigating the shooting of a 36-year-old man in southwest Atlanta as several basic questions about the Oct. 28 attack remained unanswered, including who fired the shots, what led to the violence and how the wounded man reached a nearby gas station.

The man was found at about 8:25 p.m. at 1975 Campbellton Road SW after officers responded to a report of a person shot, police said. He had gunshot wounds to his head and back and was taken to a hospital. Authorities said at the time that he was alert, conscious and breathing. Police have not publicly released his identity.

Investigators determined that the shooting itself occurred at 1935 Alison Court SW, the address of The Premier at 1935 apartment complex. Officers found multiple shell casings there. Detectives then focused part of their investigation on the apartment property, where they sought information from witnesses and examined the scene.

The victim’s movement after the shooting remains unexplained in the public account. The Alison Court location and the Campbellton Road gas station are less than a mile apart, but police had not said whether the man traveled between them on foot, in a vehicle or by some other means. Authorities also had not identified anyone who may have accompanied or assisted him.

Police likewise had not released information about a possible suspect or suspect vehicle in the latest available reports. Investigators had not announced a motive or said whether they believe the victim knew the shooter. No arrest connected to the case had been reported in the information reviewed through Nov. 1.

The physical evidence described publicly has been limited. Police reported finding multiple shell casings at the Alison Court location, supporting investigators’ determination that the gunfire occurred there rather than at the place where officers ultimately encountered the victim. Authorities have not publicly described additional evidence recovered from either location.

The victim’s medical status also remains limited to information released shortly after the shooting. Initial reports said he was conscious and breathing when emergency personnel took him to a hospital. No later public update located through Nov. 1 disclosed whether his condition had changed.

Police have not released witness accounts or a detailed timeline of what happened before the shots were fired. Without a publicly identified suspect, motive or description of the events leading to the shooting, investigators have disclosed only a partial picture of what happened that Wednesday night.

The case remains under investigation by Atlanta police’s Aggravated Assault Unit. As of the latest available reports, the department had not announced an arrest or provided answers to the major unresolved questions surrounding the shooting.
