Man and woman dead in apparent murder-suicide at Cypress home

Authorities say a family member checking on missed work schedules alerted deputies to the scene on Bonaventure Drive.

CYPRESS, Texas — A family member discovered a husband and wife dead from gunshot wounds inside a Cypress home Thursday morning, prompting an investigation that authorities said early on appears to be a murder-suicide.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said the relative, who lives next door, went to the house in the 13700 block of Bonaventure Drive when the couple had not left for work as usual. Deputies arrived, found the two adults dead, and secured the residence near Trudeau Drive. An adult family member and two young children were inside and were not hurt. Officials said there is no threat to the public and emphasized that investigators are still documenting the scene and interviewing witnesses.

Deputies established a perimeter shortly after sunrise. Evidence technicians photographed rooms and marked items while detectives spoke with relatives outside. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the circumstances are domestic, calling it a difficult morning for family members and first responders. The sheriff said investigators would review doorbell video, phone records and any recent calls for service connected to the address to map out the sequence of events before finalizing a ruling.

Authorities did not release the couple’s names or ages pending confirmation by the county medical examiner and notification of next of kin. The constable’s office said initial indicators point to one person shooting the other and then turning the gun on themselves. Officials would not specify which spouse they believe fired, citing the open investigation. Shell casings and a firearm were recovered from the scene, according to deputies. No arrests were made, and homicide investigators planned to remain on the block for several hours.

The neighborhood, a quiet subdivision in unincorporated northwest Harris County, has seen a mix of property and family-related calls over the past year, records show. Residents said they were startled by patrol cars and crime-scene tape lining Bonaventure Drive. One neighbor said the family largely kept to themselves. Another said the two usually left early for work, which is why relatives became concerned when the house stayed dark later than normal.

Next steps include autopsies to determine the official cause and manner of death, ballistics testing on the recovered weapon and casings, and a review of any written or digital messages that could explain what led up to the shootings. If the medical examiner’s rulings align with the evidence, officials said the case will be classified as a murder-suicide and closed with a final summary. If conflicting evidence appears, investigators said they will update their findings and share a timeline for additional briefings.

Neighbors placed flowers along a mailbox as deputies escorted the children to a waiting unit where victim assistance staff met with them. “It’s heartbreaking,” a resident said from behind the tape. By late morning, crews had begun clearing equipment while a patrol car remained outside the home.

Authorities said further information — including the victims’ identities — will be released by county officials after autopsies and notifications. No briefing time had been set as of Thursday afternoon.
