LAGRANGE, GA – A man from LaGrange has been charged with murder following a deadly road rage incident on Interstate 85 that resulted in the death of a Texas motorist. The Troup County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim, identified as 64-year-old Richard Hauck, was traveling southbound when he encountered the suspect, Nick Allen, 23.
According to authorities, the altercation began as the two vehicles were traveling side by side on the highway. Witnesses reported seeing the cars engage in aggressive driving before Hauck’s vehicle veered off the road and struck the center barrier. Upon arrival, first responders found Hauck bleeding from the face and later discovered he had been shot in the head.
Investigators quickly identified Allen as the suspect after a witness provided his license plate number. The swift action by the witness was praised by the authorities, who noted that such involvement is often crucial in solving cases of this nature.
This isn’t Allen’s first brush with the law. In May, he was arrested for an incident at a local manufacturing plant where he allegedly used his car to threaten three managers in a parking lot. He was charged with reckless driving and multiple counts of simple assault in that case.
As the investigation continues, Allen now faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during a crime. The motive behind the highway confrontation remains unclear, but investigators are working to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
Hauck, who was visiting LaGrange from Texas, did not survive his injuries despite efforts by emergency personnel. The tragic incident underscores the dangers of road rage and the potential for such encounters to escalate into violence.
