SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A third suspect from Florida has been charged in connection with the violent kidnapping and torture of a man outside a gym in Macomb County. Renado Gary Coleman, 38, was apprehended in Tampa, Florida, and extradited to Shelby Township, Michigan, where the alleged attack occurred.
Coleman was arraigned in 41A District Court on 12 felony counts, including home invasion and armed robbery. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido expressed the need to hold Coleman accountable for his alleged actions. The case is still under investigation, and the connection between the victim and the suspects has not been publicly disclosed.
Earlier, two other suspects from Tampa, Angel Pantoja, 22, and Angel Antonio Andujar-Ruiz, 38, were charged in the case. Authorities are still seeking at least one more suspect in connection to the incident that took place outside a gym in October of last year. The 24-year-old victim was carjacked at gunpoint, tortured, and then driven to his own residence.
Sterling Heights officers discovered one of the suspects with the victim, but the abductor managed to flee with the victim. Following a police chase, the suspect was apprehended, while others managed to escape. Detectives have been working on the investigation for several months, which included search warrants and interviews, leading them to make arrests in the Tampa area.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized 12 felonies against Coleman, including carjacking, armed robbery, torture, unlawful imprisonment, home invasion, and conspiracy charges. The Shelby Township Police Department extended their thanks to the Tampa Bay Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and ATF Task Force for their assistance in the case.
Pantoja, the first suspect charged in the incident, is facing carjacking, armed robbery, torture, and other felony charges. The case continues to unfold, with ongoing court hearings and investigations, as law enforcement seeks to hold all suspects accountable for their alleged involvement in the disturbing crime.
