Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade Shooting: 2 Men Charged with Murder

Kansas City, Missouri – Two men are facing charges of murder and other crimes in connection with a shooting that occurred during a parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. The shooting resulted in the death of one person and left 22 others injured, according to Missouri prosecutors.

Dominic M. Miller and Lyndell Mays are both held on $1 million bond and are facing charges including second degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. The incident took place on February 14 in front of Kansas City’s Union Station, where more than 1 million people had gathered to celebrate the Chiefs’ victory.

The altercation that led to the shooting began as a verbal argument between Mays and another individual, escalating quickly when Mays drew his handgun. Subsequently, Miller and others also pulled out handguns, leading to a chaotic situation where multiple people sustained gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and a local DJ, tragically lost her life in the shooting. Her family chose not to participate in the news conference, preferring to focus on honoring her memory. In a statement released by the prosecutor’s office, Lopez-Galvan’s family expressed gratitude for the efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves stated that the investigation remains ongoing and emphasized the commitment to bringing those responsible for the shootings to justice. Additionally, Graves mentioned that both Miller and Mays were injured in the incident and have been hospitalized.

Charges have also been filed against two juveniles for “gun-related and resisting arrest charges,” who are currently held in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center. Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker affirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with a determination to hold every shooter accountable for their actions during the parade. She urged anyone who fled the scene or was injured in the shooting to come forward and contact her office.

As the case continues to unfold, it is clear that the authorities are focused on ensuring accountability and seeking justice for all the victims affected by this tragic event.
