iPhone Explodes in Fuquay-Varina Man’s Pocket, Raises Concerns Over Product Safety

Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina – A man in Fuquay-Varina is seeking answers after experiencing a terrifying ordeal when his iPhone reportedly exploded in his pocket. Jonathan Allen recounted to local news stations that he noticed a burning smell while out for a walk with his family. This led him to discover that his phone was extremely hot to the touch, causing concern and confusion.

Photographs of the damaged iPhone 15 reveal shattered glass on the screen with evident impacts near the camera lens. Allen disclosed that the phone was only 60 days old, as he had purchased it in November 2024. Despite reaching out to Apple for assistance, Allen alleged that the tech giant dismissed his claims and declined to replace the faulty device, leaving him financially responsible for the defective phone.

In response to this incident, MyComputerCareer lead instructor Grant Gibson shared his insights, noting that it was unusual for a phone to explode in the manner reported by Allen. Gibson suggested that the battery overheating could have been a possible cause for the explosion, highlighting that batteries tend to expand and bulge when exposed to excessive heat.

As the situation unfolds, Apple has been approached for comment by local news outlets but has yet to provide a response. Allen, on the other hand, remains troubled by the lack of accountability from the tech company and the lingering responsibility he faces for the damaged phone. With no injuries reported from the alleged explosion, questions surrounding the safety and reliability of mobile devices have been raised in Fuquay-Varina.
