Inmate at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center Arrested in Murder-For-Hire Plot: Brother Also Detained

New London, Connecticut – Authorities have arrested an inmate at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Montville for allegedly orchestrating a murder-for-hire plan targeting four individuals, according to Connecticut State Police. Joshua Peikert, 31, faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a child, with a bond set at $500,000. He appeared in state Superior Court in New London for arraignment.

The arrest stemmed from allegations that Peikert attempted to arrange the deaths of two adults and two children, utilizing his cellmate at Corrigan as a conduit. The cellmate, after being alerted to the plan, informed one of the potential victims via letter, prompting them to contact law enforcement. It was revealed in the arrest warrant that the cellmate had no intentions of carrying out the violent scheme.

Further findings from the warrant indicated that Peikert enlisted the help of his brother, U.S. Army Sgt. Jeremiah Peikert, to facilitate payments to the cellmate as a “finders fee.” Authorities have taken the brother into custody in Texas, where he was stationed, for extradition to face similar charges related to the murder-for-hire plot.

The incident highlights the potential dangers lurking within correctional facilities, where incarcerated individuals may seek illicit means to achieve their goals. Law enforcement’s swift intervention in this case serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of monitoring prison activities to prevent harm to both inmates and the broader community.

Authorities did not disclose the motives behind Peikert’s alleged plot, underscoring the complexities involved in investigating and thwarting criminal activities within custodial environments. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in uncovering and disrupting such schemes are vital for upholding safety and security in prison settings and beyond.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the case of Joshua Peikert sheds light on the gravity of alleged criminal conduct within correctional institutions and the significant repercussions for those involved. The thorough investigative work that led to the arrests underscores the commitment of law enforcement to uphold justice and protect society from harm posed by criminal elements.
