Indicted: Man Charged in Fatal High-Speed Chase Killing Georgia State Trooper

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – An indictment has been issued for a man accused of leading a Georgia State Trooper on a high-speed chase that tragically resulted in the Trooper’s death. Trooper Jimmy Cenescar lost his life in January while on duty for the Georgia State Patrol.

The incident occurred as Cenescar attempted to stop a fleeing motorcyclist on Interstate 85, causing his patrol car to hit an embankment near SR 317 in Suwanee. Gerson Danilo Ayala-Rodriguez, 21, has been charged with felony murder, first-degree vehicular homicide, tampering with evidence, and multiple counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Ayala-Rodriguez also faces misdemeanor charges for reckless driving, speeding, two counts each of driving without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle. The District Attorney’s Office in Gwinnett County announced the indictment for Ayala-Rodriguez, emphasizing the reckless actions that led to the death of Trooper Cenescar.

Family and friends of Cenescar gathered for a funeral in February to honor his memory. Ayala-Rodriguez is currently held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond as he awaits trial. District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed the intention to prosecute the case to the fullest extent of the law, denouncing the defendant’s behavior as inexcusable. The loss of Trooper Cenescar serves as a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.
