Indianapolis Police Officer Fires on Double Murder Suspect

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A debt dispute escalated into a deadly encounter in Indianapolis, leading to the conviction of Michael Hendricks, 50, who admitted to killing two men. The violence erupted on March 28, claiming the lives of James McGuire and David Doty, both 48.

Police arrived at the 1300 block of Riley Place to find Doty severely wounded outside a residence. Despite medical efforts, Doty later died from his injuries. Inside, McGuire was discovered deceased.

Witnesses quickly identified Hendricks as the shooter, providing officers with his description and last known direction. Community members assisted police by pointing out Hendricks’ location near Prospect Street and S. Emerson Avenue.

Hendricks’ firearm was found unloaded, with a magazine inserted and the slide locked back. No injuries were reported among officers or bystanders during the confrontation.

In court, Hendricks confessed to the murders, attributing the violence to a $40 debt. He received a 90-year prison sentence from the Indiana Department of Correction.

The incident has left a profound impact on the community, emphasizing the need for effective conflict resolution and robust community-police collaboration to prevent future tragedies.
