Illegal Immigrant Indicted on Capital Murder Charges for Cheerleader Killing

EDNA, Texas – A Texas grand jury has indicted the suspect in the brutal killing of a 16-year-old girl on capital murder charges. Rafael Govea Romero, 23, an illegal immigrant, has been accused of causing the death of Lizbeth Medina, intentionally while in the course of attempting to commit a burglary, robbery, or sexual assault, according to the indictment obtained by Fox News Digital.

The indictment alleges that Romero killed Medina by causing the teenager’s “head to strike a firm surface,” “striking” her head “with a hard object,” and “repeatedly stabbing or cutting” her “with a sharp object or edged weapon.” The victim’s mother, Jacqueline Medina, expressed her distress over the indictment and stated that she plans to be involved in the justice process every step of the way.

Lizbeth was found dead in the bathtub of her home by her mother on December 5th after she had reportedly not seen or heard from the 16-year-old that afternoon. The police arrested Romero in Schulenburg, Texas, about an hour’s drive from Edna, after tracking the geolocation of Lizbeth’s phone to his location. They believe he is the person responsible for her death.

Jacqueline has been asking for answers and is eager for closure as Romero’s case plays out in court. She is seeking justice for her daughter and wants to be a part of it every step of the way. While there are many unanswered questions, she hopes to find closure through the legal process.
