Hospital Tech Zip-Tied, Stabbed While Fighting Off Attacker

A Houston Methodist employee was stabbed multiple times after arriving for work Monday.

HOUSTON, Texas — Metro light rail footage and social media posts helped Houston police identify a man accused of attacking a Houston Methodist Hospital tech inside a Texas Medical Center parking garage, court records show.

The attack happened just before 7 a.m. Monday inside Garage 1 near Fannin Street. Police said the employee had parked on the fifth floor and was preparing to go to work when she was confronted, stabbed and robbed inside her vehicle.

Houston police confirmed Thursday that Perry Green, 46, had been arrested in the case. He faces charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping. Investigators said the woman survived after fighting for several minutes and escaping through the passenger side of her vehicle.

According to court records, the employee was on the driver’s side of the car when she was approached. She fell toward the passenger side, kicked and screamed, and tried to hit the horn with her head to draw attention. Police said Green later used zip ties found inside the vehicle to restrain her.

Records say Green demanded the woman’s debit cards and keys before starting the vehicle. The woman told police she was able to open the passenger door with her toes and run for help. She suffered seven stab wounds to the chest, three cuts to her face and other stab wounds, records state.

Two brothers who were in the garage tried to chase the attacker, according to records. They stopped after seeing a small knife with an orange handle and turned back to help the victim. Police said the suspect left the area after the attack.

Investigators said surveillance video from Metro showed a suspect parking a Nissan van marked with an EMF dispensary logo at the Fannin South station before riding the train to the Dryden stop. Police said video later showed the suspect returning to the van and driving away.

Court records say police matched the van to Green’s Instagram account, where photos appeared to show the same vehicle and Green wearing a similar shirt. Earlier in the investigation, police released images of the suspect and described him as a bearded Black man wearing a red or orange Houston Rockets hoodie, black pants and black shoes.

Houston Methodist said the attack led to temporary lockdowns on part of the campus. The hospital system said there was no indication of an active or imminent threat. The victim’s mother said her daughter is recovering and the family is taking it “day by day.”

Green’s case is now in court, with the charges tied to the robbery, restraint and stabbing allegations. Police have not released a full motive, and the investigation remains active.
