Honolulu Police Investigate Two Non-Random Murder Cases: One Suspect Arrested

Honolulu, Hawaii – Honolulu police launched investigations into two separate murder cases over the weekend, marking a surge in violent incidents on the island. In the first incident, a 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed and two others were injured early Sunday morning on Makaloa Street. Just the day before, a 39-year-old man was shot and killed at Ohikilolo Ranch in a separate and unrelated case.

According to Lt. Deena Thoemmes, head of HPD’s homicide detail, both incidents appeared to stem from arguments and were not random acts of violence. On Sunday, HPD announced the arrest of a 17-year-old male in connection with the Makaha murder investigation. However, the assailant in the Keeaumoku incident is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect in the Keeaumoku Street incident is described as a bald Asian male in his 30s or 40s, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and was last seen fleeing the scene with a knife. Thoemmes stated that the stabbing seemed to have been triggered by a dispute over a female and that the victims and the attacker were all acquainted with each other.

Emergency Medical Services reported treating three patients with apparent stab wounds, and while the 28-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries, the other two victims were treated and released. Thoemmes urged anyone with information on either case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations.

In the case of the fatal shooting at Ohikilolo Ranch, it was reported that the victim had been arguing with hunters about a dog attacking his steer. The confrontation escalated, leading to the victim being shot. The hunters then fled the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead upon the arrival of emergency medical services.

Although investigations are ongoing, Thoemmes emphasized that neither case appeared to be a random act and that HPD was dedicated to bringing justice to the victims and their families. She urged the public to report any information relating to the incidents to help with the investigations.
