HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police surrounded a northwest Houston apartment complex Friday after a reported stabbing left one man injured and a suspect barricaded inside an apartment, prompting a large law enforcement response along North Shepherd Drive.
Officers were called to the 4400 block of North Shepherd Drive after 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Garden Oaks Village apartment complex, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said a man had reportedly been stabbed and the suspected attacker remained at the scene inside an apartment.
The response continued for hours as officers established a perimeter around the property. Video from the scene showed officers positioned outside with firearms drawn. Smoke also could be seen coming from an apartment as police remained focused on the barricaded suspect.
Authorities had not explained what caused the smoke or whether it was connected to actions inside the apartment. No fire-related injuries were immediately announced, and officials had not provided details about any damage to the unit or surrounding apartments.
More than a dozen police vehicles were seen around the complex during the response. The operation also affected traffic, with northbound lanes of Shepherd Drive closed near the scene while officers worked around the apartment property.
