Neighbors said bullets struck property as an armed person pursued the 18-year-old through a Princeton-area townhome development.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The sound of repeated gunfire captured by a doorbell camera has deepened safety concerns in a southwest Miami-Dade community where an 18-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night.
The recording was made near Southwest 233rd Street and Southwest 132nd Avenue in the Princeton area. A package was being delivered nearby when the shots rang out, according to video from the neighborhood. The camera did not capture the shooting itself, but its audio recorded a prolonged series of shots.
A resident who asked not to be named estimated that 19 shots were fired. Authorities had not confirmed that number or provided details about the type of weapon used.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the violence began with a dispute between two men. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the other, officials said. The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. His identity had not been publicly released as of Saturday.
Neighbors said the victim did not live in the immediate townhome community. They reported seeing him run into the development from across the street while someone fired at him. Investigators had not publicly verified that sequence or said where the confrontation first began.
Residents said the shooter continued firing while pursuing the teen up a driveway. They reported apparent bullet strikes to trees, vehicles and garages along the route, leaving some worried that the gunfire could easily have injured people in nearby homes.
“This is scary in any neighborhood,” said the resident whose camera captured the shots. “But to have this happen 100 feet from your house is just another level of stuff.”
The shooting turned the residential streets into an overnight crime scene. Footage showed investigators using flashlights as they examined the roadway and areas around homes. More than a dozen evidence markers were placed across two streets, indicating the size of the area being processed.
Authorities had not disclosed what investigators recovered or whether evidence from private security cameras would help identify the shooter. Doorbell and home-surveillance recordings can document sounds, movements or vehicles near a crime scene, but officials had not said what other footage was available.
Video also showed an ambulance arriving at a hospital. A visibly distressed woman stood nearby and spoke with a deputy, though her identity and relationship to the victim were not released.
No arrest or suspect description had been announced by Saturday. The sheriff’s office had also not released a possible motive beyond describing the encounter as a dispute between two men.
