Gunfire Shatters Eastvale House Party, Killing One and Wounding Six

Authorities have released few details about who opened fire or what led to the violence that wounded seven people Saturday night.

EASTVALE, Calif. — Riverside County homicide detectives continued investigating a deadly weekend shooting in Eastvale on Tuesday without announcing an arrest, a suspect description or a motive, days after seven people were shot and one of them died.

The unresolved questions have become the central focus of the case since deputies were called to the 7000 block of Morning Hills Drive at 11:13 p.m. Saturday. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were responding to a report of unknown trouble and a possible shooting. When they arrived, they found seven people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while six others were taken to local hospitals. Authorities have not publicly released the wounded victims’ conditions, ages or identities. The name of the person killed was initially withheld while officials worked to notify relatives.

The Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation. Officials have not said what may have happened immediately before the shooting, whether investigators are looking for one person or multiple people, or whether a firearm was recovered. The department said no arrests had been made when it announced the homicide investigation.

The shooting occurred during a house party, according to ABC7, which reported that the home was near the corner of Morning Hills Drive and Maggie Lane. Neighbor Sandy Sanders told the station she heard multiple gunshots from her home, with a pause separating two bursts. She described a sudden scene of confusion after the gunfire.

Sanders told ABC7 that one wounded person left the immediate shooting scene and entered her backyard. She said a neighbor who is a law enforcement officer encountered that person. Investigators have not publicly explained the circumstances surrounding that encounter or said whether the wounded person was considered a party guest, witness or otherwise involved in the events under investigation.

Neighbors told ABC7 they had not noticed a major disturbance before the shots were fired. They said the party did not seem especially loud and that they had not heard an argument beforehand. Those observations offer only a limited view of what happened, and authorities have not identified any dispute or other event as a cause of the shooting.

The lack of publicly identified suspects or a stated motive means much of the case remains under investigation. Officials have not disclosed how many shots were fired based on evidence collected at the scene, how many weapons may have been involved or whether detectives have obtained surveillance video or other evidence that could help establish a sequence of events.

The Sheriff’s Office has said the case remains an active homicide investigation. As of Tuesday, officials had not announced an arrest or released additional information identifying the person responsible, leaving the circumstances behind the deadly shooting unresolved.
