Marlowe Heights, Md. — A gunfight outside a banquet hall has led to murder charges against one man following a violent incident that resulted in three fatalities over the weekend.
The shooting occurred early Saturday morning outside Irving’s, where a private birthday celebration was taking place. Witnesses reported that the confrontation stemmed from an argument within the venue, escalating into a deadly exchange of gunfire just outside the establishment.
Authorities identified the deceased as Pierre Davis, 33, and Kevon Williams, 26, both from Washington, D.C., and Ronez Proctor, 27, from Waldorf, Maryland. According to police, Davis and Williams, engaged in a mutual exchange of shots, while Antonio Lancaster, 39, of Laurel, Maryland, has been arrested and charged in connection with Proctor’s death.
Lancaster was apprehended in Fairfax County, Virginia, shortly after the shooting and is currently awaiting extradition to Maryland. He faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree murder, along with two counts of attempted murder related to the incident.
Officials announced that Irving’s has been temporarily closed due to the shooting, with county leaders expressing concern over the venue’s security measures during the party. Investigators indicated that Proctor was not armed and was trying to aide an injured individual when he was shot.
Local authorities are scrutinizing the role that alcohol may have played in the incident, with officials underscoring the responsibility of venues to maintain safety standards. “This tragic event highlights the importance of proper security measures in public establishments,” said Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy. “We must ensure that establishments prioritize the safety of their patrons, particularly during late hours.”
Braveboy emphasized that any establishment failing to meet these standards could face severe consequences, stating, “This is your notice that we will shut you down if you do not have a security plan on file and adequate measures in place.”
Police believe that the individuals involved in the shooting were acquainted, suggesting that the invite-only nature of the birthday celebration played a role in the events that unfolded. Community members have been left shaken by the violence, prompting calls for increased vigilance regarding public safety in social venues.
