Grim Trend Emerges in Uttar Pradesh Police Force Amidst Shocking Case of Rape and Suicide

Lucknow, India – The reputation of the Uttar Pradesh Police has been tarnished yet again by the alleged misconduct of one of its own officers. The recent case involves a constable at Chhatta police station in Agra district who stands accused of raping and then hanging a 25-year-old Dalit nurse. These shocking accusations cast a dark shadow over the law enforcement agency’s reputation in the region.

The victim, who was employed at a kidney center in Gurugram, was allegedly exploited for an extended period by Constable Raghavendra Singh, who had promised her marriage. Despite attempts by the victim’s family to discuss marriage with Singh’s family, their proposal was rejected. The constable’s continued association with the victim ultimately led to the tragic crime.

The victim’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling of Singh’s rented room in Belanganj area on December 29. The police swiftly responded to the family’s complaint, leading to the arrest of Raghavendra Singh on Sunday. A case has been registered against the accused constable under sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, and the SC/ST Act.

This incident is not an isolated one in Uttar Pradesh, as recent cases have revealed a troubling trend within the state’s police force. In Salempur, Deoria district, a retired inspector faced charges of raping a woman for four years on the false promise of marriage. Additionally, a girl preparing for the UPSC exam accused a senior officer of rape and abortion, raising questions about the effectiveness of the law and order system in the state.

The National Commission for Women’s statistics reveal an alarming situation, with over half of the crimes against women in the country being reported in Uttar Pradesh. These cases raise concerns about the safety and security of women in the state and cast a shadow over the integrity of the police force.
