Grandfather of 17-year-old shot after getting of school bus weighs in

BATON ROUGE, LA – In a heartbreaking event, the life of 17-year-old Anthony Robinson, a Scotlandville High School student, was cut short when he was shot while walking home from school. As the community mourns, police have apprehended a 16-year-old suspect believed to be responsible for the tragic incident.

Robinson was known for his intelligence and entrepreneurial spirit, with aspirations in engineering and design. His family remembers him as a creative young man full of potential and dreams.

The suspect, who was detained near his residence in Baker, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. Investigations have uncovered a history of altercations between Robinson and the suspect, which may have contributed to the shooting.

Robinson’s grandfather, Ted Field, shared his close bond with his grandson, recalling their summers spent landscaping together. Field recounted a previous confrontation between Robinson and the suspect at a basketball game, which turned violent.

Family members revealed that the suspect had previously threatened Robinson with a knife, prompting a police report earlier that day. The school district has expressed its sorrow and is cooperating with police to ensure a thorough investigation.

Field’s grief is compounded by the loss of future moments, such as Robinson’s prom, which he was eagerly preparing for. Despite the tragedy, Field cherishes the memories he made with his grandson.

The suspect is currently held at the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center, as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The community stands united in support of the Robinson family during this difficult time.
