Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park Investigates Death of Heavily Armed Man Found on Premises

Glenwood Springs, Colorado – The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of a 20-year-old man found deceased at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs. The man was discovered heavily armed and dressed in tactical clothing, with improvised explosives also found in his possession and his vehicle. The amusement park has been closed indefinitely as the investigation continues.

The sheriff’s statement emphasized the potential threat the suspect posed to the community and first responders, given the amount of weaponry, ammunition, and explosive devices found. The Grand Junction Bomb Squad successfully disarmed the bombs found with the man’s body and in his vehicle, in collaboration with the Garfield County All Hazard Response Team.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name, but a statement issued on Monday identified him as a 20-year-old man from the Carbondale area. It was also stated that the suspect had broken into the park after hours and was not directly associated with the park.

In addition to the investigation at the park, authorities also conducted a search at the man’s home, although no announcement has been made regarding the findings. However, it has been confirmed that there is currently no threat to the public.

This incident follows a previous tragedy at the park when a 6-year-old girl died in 2021 after a worker failed to properly secure her restraints before starting up a ride. A wrongful death lawsuit brought against Glenwood Caverns is still pending in connection with the girl’s death.

The situation with the heavily-armed suspect and the tragic death at the park highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and the efforts of law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the community. The investigation continues, and authorities are working to provide clarity and closure for all those impacted by these incidents.
