Gang Trafficking Guns and Drugs Linked to Fatal Robberies through Dating Websites

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Federal prosecutors revealed on Friday that a group of gang members involved in drug and gun trafficking had orchestrated a series of robberies that resulted in four deaths. The gang, known as the “fentanyl robbery gang,” operated across multiple states from New Hampshire to Virginia.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard Karam of the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the gang utilized dating websites to connect with individuals interested in hiring prostitutes. The members and their associates would then arrange to meet with victims under the pretense of providing drugs, only to rob them of various items, including guns, cash, cellphones, drugs laced with fentanyl, and valuable possessions.

Tragically, the victims were often unknowingly given drugs containing fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, which left them incapacitated and vulnerable to theft. In cases where victims resisted or were not quickly incapacitated, the gang resorted to violent means such as home invasions, where they would enter the victims’ residences, steal valuable items at gunpoint, and use threats or physical force.

The criminal activities of this group have been linked to three deaths in Pennsylvania, specifically in Berks and Luzerne counties, as well as one death in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Prosecutors suspect that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Seven members of the gang have been indicted on a range of charges, including kidnapping, aggravated identity theft, drug distribution conspiracy, administering fentanyl resulting in death or serious injury, and weapons offenses. Some of the individuals involved in the group were reportedly affiliated with gangs based in New York City.

The investigation into the fentanyl robbery gang involved collaboration among several law enforcement agencies at the state, county, and local levels in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, along with support from the FBI and the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

As authorities continue to unravel the extent of the gang’s criminal activities, the indictment serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by organized crime and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to protect communities from such violent threats.
