Gang Member Arrested for Drive-By Shooting That Killed 3-Year-Old Boy in Athens

ATHENS, Georgia – Following a tragic drive-by shooting at an eastside trailer park in Athens that claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy, a suspected gang member has been taken into custody. Julian Omar Cubillos was arrested in the early hours of Saturday on charges of malice murder, criminal gang activity, and multiple counts of aggravated assault related to the death of Kyron Zarco at Hallmark Estates on Spring Valley Road.

The fatal incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Friday while the child was watching TV with his 9-year-old brother, who was also shot, along with an adult male believed to be associated with an Athens street gang. Law enforcement officials attribute the shooting to a rivalry between the EBE and RTG street gangs, with the adult victim identified as a member of the Red Tape Gang (RTG). Cubillos is suspected of having ties to the Every Body Eats (EBE) gang.

Authorities from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department are actively seeking additional suspects in connection to the case. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to reach out to Sergeant Black at 762-400-7058 or via email at scott.black@accgov.com.
