Four Found Dead at Livonia Home as Suspect Walks Out to Police

Officials said three victims were believed to be related to the suspect.

LIVONIA, Mich. — Livonia police are investigating a shooting that killed four adults Tuesday at a home near 7 Mile Road and ended with a resident in custody, officials said.

The shooting was reported about 5:47 p.m. June 9 in the 19000 block of Rensellor Street. Police said officers arrived after reports of shots fired and found two victims inside the home and two more in the backyard.

Authorities said the first officers at the scene saw a person come out of the residence with hands raised. Police said the person indicated he had shot family members inside the home. “The individual was taken into custody without incident,” police said. Investigators later recovered a gun at the residence.

Police said two people were found dead from gunshot wounds in a bedroom on the main floor. Two other people were found in the backyard with gunshot wounds and also were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were described as two women and two men. Their identities had not been released while authorities worked to notify families.

Officials said three victims were believed to be relatives of the suspect. A fourth victim was described as someone who was in a relationship with the suspect’s brother. Police had not released the suspect’s name, age or expected charges. They also had not said what may have led to the shooting.

The response brought a heavy police presence to the neighborhood Tuesday evening. Video from the area showed officers around the home and a person appearing to be placed into a police vehicle. Police said the scene was contained and there was no continued danger to the public.

The investigation was still open Wednesday. Detectives were expected to review the weapon, collect evidence from inside and outside the home, interview witnesses and prepare reports for prosecutors. No court hearing had been announced.

As of Wednesday, four adults were dead, one suspect was in custody and police had not released the victims’ names. Livonia officials said more information would be released as the investigation allowed.
