Police said Darius Levy was tied to an active protective order involving another resident at the home where Saturday’s gunfire erupted.
FORT WORTH, Texas — A man killed during a confrontation inside an East Fort Worth home was the subject of an active protective order connected to another person living there, a detail investigators are examining as they work to determine what led to the deadly shooting, police said.
The man, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 29-year-old Darius Levy, died Saturday after police say a resident returned home, found him inside and became involved in a physical fight with him. Both men later drew firearms and shot each other, according to Fort Worth police.
The protective order involved another resident of the house and not the man who exchanged gunfire with Levy, investigators said. Authorities had not disclosed Sunday what prompted the order, when it was issued or what restrictions it imposed. Police also had not explained Levy’s reason for being at the home.
The confrontation happened about 3:30 p.m. on Misty Glenn Court, near Interstate 30 and East Loop 820. Police said both Levy and the resident were struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Levy was pronounced dead at the scene. The resident survived and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His identity and condition had not been released as of Sunday morning.
Neighbors reported hearing an altercation from the home shortly before shots were fired, police said. Investigators have not provided further details about what was heard or released a complete account of what happened between the resident’s arrival and the shooting.
Several questions remained unanswered Sunday, including how Levy entered the residence, whether he had permission to be there and whether he had any prior relationship with the man who confronted him. Police also had not announced findings about the sequence of shots or other evidence collected at the scene.
No formal charges had been announced. The existence of the protective order provides investigators with additional context, but police have not said it established a motive for Levy’s presence or for the confrontation. Authorities have not publicly characterized the shooting beyond their account of the fight and exchange of gunfire.
Fort Worth detectives were continuing to investigate the case Sunday. Police had not announced when further information about the shooting, the protective order or the wounded resident might be released.
