Forensic Science Commander Anticipates Identification of 23 Victims in Factory Explosion by Saturday

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Police Forensic Science in Thailand is working to identify the 23 victims of a devastating explosion at a fireworks factory. Pol Lt-General Trairong Phiwpan, the commander of the office, anticipates completing the identification process by Saturday. However, he mentioned that the DNA examination is necessary and could delay the completion of the task.

The tragic explosion occurred on Wednesday, claiming the lives of all 23 individuals who were working inside the fireworks factory at the time. Pol Lt-General Trairong Phiwpan stated that the police investigators have collected all the evidence from the site and will be examining them to determine the cause of the explosion. However, he did not provide an estimate for when the results would be available.

Rescue workers who responded to the scene reported that the force of the explosion caused the victims’ bodies to be blown apart, making identification a challenging task. Many body parts were found as far as 50 meters away from the site and in nearby rice fields.

The owner of the fireworks factory visited the explosion site on Friday to provide details about the premises before the deadly incident, while the police force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers were also dispatched to inspect the site that day. The factory owner’s account and the findings from the inspection may provide additional insights into the circumstances leading to the explosion.

The completion of the identification process is crucial for providing closure to the families of the victims. As the forensic procedures and investigations continue, the authorities aim to provide timely updates as they work to determine the cause of the tragic explosion.
