Flooding Tragedy Sparks Political Blame Game in Delhi

New Delhi, India – The aftermath of the tragic deaths of three students in a basement flooded during heavy rains in the national capital has sparked a political blame game. On July 29, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced plans to protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters in Delhi, accusing the Delhi Government of “criminal negligence” that led to the fatalities.

Simultaneously, the AAP revealed their intentions to protest outside the office of the Central Government-appointed Lieutenant Governor. Their demands include the removal of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner and punitive actions against officials responsible for the failure to desilt drains. The AAP has alleged that despite multiple complaints, the Lieutenant Governor has not taken action against these officials.

In response to the tragedy, security has been heightened in the Old Rajinder Nagar area, where civil service aspirants have gathered to protest. These aspirants are calling for justice for the students who lost their lives in the basement flooding incident. The protest has escalated, with participants blocking the carriageways of Pusa Road near the Karol Bagh Metro Station.

The protests have drawn attention to the urgent need for accountability and action to prevent such incidents in the future. The community is rallying together to demand justice and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their negligence. As the political tensions rise, the focus remains on seeking justice for the victims of this preventable tragedy.
