Flames Visible from Highway: Firefighters Rush to Explosive Scene in San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas – Firefighters rushed to a neighborhood on the east side of San Antonio early Saturday morning after receiving reports of a loud explosion. Neighbors were awakened by the explosion on Wayne Drive, just outside Loop 410 and south of Rigsby.

Upon arrival, the firefighters reported seeing flames from the highway access road before reaching the scene. The incident commander described the burning home as a “work in progress,” with heavy smoke emanating from the second story. Chief John Castillo mentioned concerns about the home’s electrical wiring, which led to the power being shut off due to unprofessional electrical work.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities working to determine the origin and circumstances that led to the blaze. Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters were able to contain the fire within minutes of arrival, preventing further damage to the neighborhood.

One resident was in the home at the time of the incident and fortunately escaped without any injuries. The structure, known to be hazardous by neighbors due to piled trash and debris surrounding the property, has been a source of concern for the community for years.

Officials highlighted the dangers posed by poorly constructed buildings like the one engulfed in flames, emphasizing the importance of safety and compliance with building standards. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, with authorities aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the community awaits further updates on the investigation, concerns about building safety and fire prevention continue to be at the forefront of discussions among residents and officials in the neighborhood.
